Bio
Sam utilizes psychodynamic and somatic approaches to counseling such as psychodrama, mindfulness practices, and cognitive-behavioral approaches. They prioritize creative and embodied interventions personalized to each individual. Sam works with children and adults in areas such as anxiety, depression, and relationship issues through a focus on self-awareness, self-acceptance, and communication skills.
Sam received a Master’s in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University and an undergraduate degree in Hispanic Studies from the College of William & Mary. Sam is currently involved in advanced training in Psychodrama, which they have been trained in intensively for the past few years preparing for certification. Sam is a trauma-informed clinician. They provide services in English and can speak Spanish at an intermediate level to support clients with family members who may be fluent in Spanish only.
As a trained school counselor, Sam works closely with children, adolescents, and families. In addition, Sam has extensive experience working with clients around topics of gender identity, consent/ethical non-monogamy, antiracism, and immigration histories. They also work in the realms of neurodivergence and neurotypical presentations, Autism Spectrum Disorders, 504 accommodations, peer conflict, school apathy, and peer issues. They include insight meditation and Judeo-Christian practices (and some of the pre-colonial influences) into their work with clients.
Sam identifies as non-binary and a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. In their free time, they enjoy participating in social justice efforts, learning about spiritual practices, and playing music outside.
