Jil Theryon, LICSW, LCSW is an EMDR-certified therapist. She provides direct and action-focused care through evidence-based scientific care administered from a perspective of familiarity, approachability, and compassion. Her perspectives are culturally-informed, and she seeks to highlight individuals with respect to their environment at the personal and societal levels. She enjoys work with clients who are first-time therapy goers, are skeptical of the process, or clients who have not had effective therapeutic experiences in the past. She acknowledges how these circumstances can create additional barriers to healing and is motivated to help clients overcome these obstacles.
Jil has extensive experience with developmental disorders, behavioral dysfunction in childhood, emotional abuse, acute traumatic experiences and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and chronic pain. She has experience with both children and adults, treating the more challenging aspects of these categorical specializations through work with individuals, couples, families and groups. Jil is an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist with experience treating both acute trauma, complex trauma, chronic pain, self-esteem challenges, and stubborn phobias through this evidence-based and efficient therapeutic intervention.
Jil has over a decade of experience in treating obstacles associated with learning, emotional and behavioral differences while also celebrating the unique traits, strengths and gifts that accompany neurodiversity. She has previously held roles as a clinical manager, program chair of an undergraduate transition to college program, professional development presenter, adjunct undergraduate professor of Sociology, in-home specialized behavior consultant, social work supervisor, and outpatient mental health practitioner at both large and small outpatient practices. She is pleased to join Darby Integrative Counseling to offer dynamic support to marginalized communities who are seeking additional or intensive care to address stubborn challenges that require additional creativity to address.
Jil holds a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from Sacred Heart University, a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Fordham University, and is completing her dissertation for a Doctorate of Psychology with a concentration in Social Psychology from Walden University at present.
Jil is originally from Connecticut, having relocated to the Northern Virginia area in 2019. In her free time, she is a playwright and has written and produced works of theater in New York City. She enjoys travel, singing, watching documentaries, and spending time with her pets and foster children.
